ABOUT EMILY SANDERS

 

Art is my oasis.  It is my escape from the hustle and bustle of the day-to-day world.  It has always been this way.  This theme of escaping to a better place comes from a tragic event during my childhood.  When I was only three, my first baby sister was born.  She passed away three weeks later due to complications during birth.  As such a young child I neither could nor knew how to process this news. I simply chose to “escape.”  I used art as a tool to facilitate this.  Still to this day art is my peaceful getaway from the harshness of the real world.  I reflect this in my subject matter and my color pallet choices in my pieces.   I exclusively create pieces that express happiness and make others feel, even if for just a fleeting moment, joy.  

           

First and foremost, I am a realism and impressionist inspired artist.  I prefer to show the classic beauty of the world as it is, but with a twist.  Examples of this different style could include a face made out of words that describe the subject’s feelings, or even a scene portrayed in a more vibrant color pallet than true to its nature. When it comes to mediums I am a very exploratory artist.  My first choice of weaponry when fending off the crazy world through art is typically pen, pencil, or oil pastel.  I appreciate the direct control these tools give me over my art and the details they contain. However, I find a thrill in experimenting with new media, such as watercolor, oil, fibers and polymers, to discover how my ideas translate when conveyed in a different form. 

           

Art is a living and breathing subject.  It is constantly evolving differently for each and every artist, and I am no different.  My art has matured along with me.  It continues to grow with meaning and detail.  My own authentic voice is finally starting to be heard.  The pieces in my collection are pieces of myself seen though a stained glass classic beauty that evokes a natural nature of hope and joy for people.  Welcome to the beautiful side of the world, breathe in the peaceful air and savor the art.
